Music is such a wonderful gift, and it is our joy to be able to help you along your journey of reaching your potential on your instrument.
Our mission is to build and foster in our students a love for music, the technical ability and musicianship to be able to play and perform the music that they love. It is our desire that each student that passes through our school would both enjoy their time here while learning skills that will last a lifetime.
Below are our music school policies. Please take the time to read through them so you know how we operate.
We offer the very first lesson free of charge. This enables us to get to know each other a little while also making a start on a few things in your workbook. Please note that this lesson may or may not run for the full lesson time.
Each student learning is required to fill out an enrollment form at the beginning of each year of learning prior to the first lesson. It can either be emailed in or brought along to the first paid lesson.
Lesson payments are paid by the term in advance. Lesson times are optional, and include 15, 30, 45 or 60 minute lessons.
We offer discounted lesson prices for families that are enrolling 3 or more students. Please contact us regarding lesson pricing.
Lesson term fees will be calculated depending on how many weeks are in each term. Any extra lessons will incur seperate fees.
Payments can be made either by bank transfer or cash in hand before or at the first lesson.
At Evans Music School we love working with young children, and while we don’t require that their parent/guardian stay during their lesson, we strongly encourage them to stay involved. We find that children, when encouraged by their parents or guardians with the information they took from each lesson, progress so much quicker that those who don’t. If it’s not practical to sit in on the lessons, we would encourage involvement during their practice sessions at home, as children often need a guiding hand to help them achieve their goals.
Any no-show lesson will not be given a refund. A refund or makeup will only be offered if lesson cancelation is given with 24 hours notice (by the lesson time the day before). Any refund considered after this will be at the discretion of the teacher. All make up lessons are subject to availability.
If a refunded lesson cannot be rescheduled for any reason, the lesson will be refunded at the end of term.
Make up lessons cannot be continued past the end of the term.
Students are generally booked in one after the other, meaning that each lesson will need to run strictly to time allotted. If for some reason a student arrives late for their lesson, we may not be able to give them extra time at the end of their session. In this instance, we reserve the right to run the lesson longer if time permits.
Please note late arrival fees will not be refunded.
Full term payments are not refundable. If a student discontinues learning midway through a term, a refund can be requested of 50% of the remaining term fee from when they stopped (i.e., if there were 4 weeks remaining at $30 per lesson, $60 would then be refunded).
If financial issues make lessons or term payments difficult for any reason, please don’t hesitate to contact us and we will do our best to help you continue with us.
All students learning at EMS are required to complete an End of Year Assessment at EMS or take an official examination through AMEB (Australian Music Examinations Board). This will require a student to have a method book or grade book completed and assessment criteria learned and performable. Your music teacher will help you with this.
The EMS assessment will provide the successful student with a certificate and feedback paper for the past year. A Pass is required to continue music lessons into the following year. Note that a pass is generally required to continue lessons at EMS.
Those sitting an examination through AMEB will not be required to be assessed by us.
At the end of each year we provide an opportunity for students to perform in a studio concert. This often takes place in a different hired venue within the last few weeks of term 4. It is an excellent opportunity to be able to present in front of other people and to gain performance experience.
These concerts are always filmed and recorded professionally, and the performance sent to those who played. Please let us know if you are interested in participating in this.
We take child and student safety seriously, which is why we have installed a security system that records at all times during lessons. No part of this footage will be used for any reason, including advertisement, video promotion and photo use, except for security purposes. We reserve the right to use this footage for any security and safety reason should the need arise.
